The spectacular setting of Pratoni Del Vivaro in the volcanic crater south of Rome was the setting for the FEI European Eventing Championship 2007. The result from four years ago at Punchestown, Ireland was repeated, with France’s Nicholas Toussaint putting up a faultless performance on the brilliant grey Galan De Sauvagere to post a record low score in modern times, with Great Britain winning their 7th consecutive European title from the French team in second.
Like Punchestown this competition was won and lost on cross country day with Gesseppi Della Chiesa’s course being demanding on stamina and clever in design – only Toussaint going clear inside the time.
The athletes and horses in the sport of eventing keep pushing the bar of excellence higher and higher and this was a competition of the very highest standard with the individual competition won by one of the great event horses of all time.
High class dressage and the last 6 showjumping rounds sandwich highlights of the dramatic cross country action.
