In a rare show of emotion, Germany’s Marcus Ehning threw his arms around Sandro Boy’s neck and punched the air in delight after claiming the FEI World Cup Jumping trophy for the second time in his career, this time at the Putra Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. “He’s an unbelievable horse,” the 32 year old rider said, “it doesn’t matter to him where he finds himself – how short he is to a fence, how long he is or how big the fence is, he just jumps it and the feeling is unbelievable.”

The closing stages of the series turned into a battle between arguably the very best big-jumping horses in the world, with Ireland’s Jessica Kuerten fighting Marcus every inch of the way, finishing just one point behind with Castle Forbes Libertina.

Beat Mandli had to settle for third, with Italy’s Juan Carlos Garcia finishing fourth. The USA’s Margie Engle and Quervo Gold placed 11^th, Breezie Madden on Judgement came in 13^th, and Laura Kraut on Anthem placed 16^th.
